He began rapping in high school, enjoying freestyles alongside art and video games. Early on, he recorded his first song using a friend’s equipment while working jobs like working security and delivering pizzas. Around 2017, he left home to live on his own. He started posting music on SoundCloud in 2018, uploading tracks such as “Jetslide ’98,” “Darkside!,” and “Sinner Pt.1,” along with freestyles like “YesIndeedFreestyle” and “RoverFreestyle.” His debut EP Mdnght (Side A)came out in early 2019 and included songs like “Iwrotethis4me,” “M4DONNA,” and “Lateshow” featuring JaXic.
In June 2019, his track “GoodMorningTokyo!” went viral on SoundCloud and TikTok. It reached No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and No. 2 on Rolling Stone’s Trending 25, gaining millions of streams and inspiring over a million TikTok videos. Later that year, he collaborated with Joey Trap on the EP Trapped in Tokyo, and released the breakout single “Thot!” in November, which also caught viral attention.
