Peter John Gasparino was born on May 29, 1970, and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. He played football at Greenwich High School, where he became friends with Shane McMahon, the son of WWE chairman Vince McMahon. He earned an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Connecticut, where he played football for the UConn Huskies. After graduating, he decided not to pursue wrestling at first. He spoke to Shane McMahon in 1992 about joining the wrestling business, but Shane encouraged him to focus on a regular career instead. Following that advice, he entered business and began working for Lightnin Rentals, a company in New York City that rented film production equipment.

Professional Wrestling Career

Peter John Gasparino joined WWE (then WWF) in early 1999 as Pete Gas, a member of the Mean Street Posse, alongside childhood friend Rodney and later Joey Abs. They debuted on the March 22, 1999, episode of Raw, interfering in a street fight between Shane McMahon and X‑Pac. Dressed in sweater vests and dress pants to reflect their "preppy" Greenwich image, they helped Shane in his feud over the European Championship. Their comedic villain characters quickly drew strong audience reactions and led to WWE signing them to one-year deals. Gas also trained under Tom Prichard to become a wrestler during this time.
The Posse took part in major storylines in 1999, including feuding with Vince McMahon’s allies Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson, joining the Corporate Ministry, and then adding Joey Abs to form the full trio. They competed in matches at SummerSlam and Survivor Series, and entered a tag team battle royal at Armageddon 1999. Despite sneaky tactics like switching places behind the referee’s back, they never won titles while still delivering entertainment value.
In early 2000, the Posse launched a humorous feud with Crash Holly over the Hardcore Championship, ambushing him in public places such as airports and hotel rooms. At WrestleMania 2000, the trio participated in a Hardcore Battle Royal; during the match, each member briefly held the championship belt. Pete Gas pinned Thrasher but eventually Hardcore Holly emerged victorious as the final champion.
In mid-2000, Gas and his partners were sent to Memphis Championship Wrestling, WWE's developmental territory. While there, Gas and Rodney won the MCW Southern Tag Team Championship twice. Pete also won the Power Pro Wrestling heavyweight title shortly before it closed. The Posse was released from WWE in June 2001.
Pete Gas briefly wrestled on the independent circuit from 2001 to September 6, 2003, when he lost to Prince Nana in ECWA. He then retired from full‑time wrestling. Later, he appeared at WWE’s Raw 15th anniversary special in December 2007, entering a Battle Royal and being eliminated by Bart Gunn. He also made guest spots on WWE’s Edge and Christian Show in 2016, and published his autobiography Looking at the Lights: My Path from Fan to a Wrestling Heelin 2017.
Pete Gas’s run in WWE lasted just a few years, but his untrained background, comedic identity, and genuine crowd reactions during the Attitude Era made him one of the more unusual and memorable characters of the time.
