Michael Altieri was born on October 3, 1983, in New Haven, Connecticut. From a young age, he practiced amateur wrestling in junior high and continued through high school, showing natural skill and athleticism. After graduating in 1999, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for two years. During his service, he kept practicing wrestling whenever he could, blending discipline with passion.
After leaving the Air Force in 2001, Altieri moved to Tampa, Florida and worked as a personal trainer. While helping others get fit, he realized that he wanted to try professional wrestling himself. He trained under his cousin, former cruiserweight champion Billy Kidman, and former NWA Florida wrestler Roderick Strongat their wrestling school. This training helped him turn his early wrestling skill and drive into a professional path.

Professional Wrestling Career

Michael Altieri, better known as Mikey Batts, began his career after training at the NWA Florida school under his cousin Billy Kidman and veteran wrestler Roderick Strong. He made his pro debut on June 20, 2003, in a match against Naphtali in NWA Florida and quickly earned a reputation for his high-flying style.
During his time in NWA Florida, Batts rose through the ranks. On February 26, 2005, he won a six-man match in Brandon, Florida, to become the NWA Florida X Division Champion. He also held the NWA Florida Tag Team Championshiponce, alongside Jerrelle Clark, demonstrating his versatility in both singles and tag team action.
In June 2004, Batts joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), initially appearing as on-screen security. Soon he signed a full contract and began teaming regularly with Jerrelle Clark on TNA Impact!. While they weren’t involved in major storylines, Batts also competed in the fast-paced X Division. At TNA No Surrenderon July 17, 2005, he entered a four-way match to qualify for the Super X Cup tournament. He also competed in the Chris Candido Cup tournament alongside Simon Diamond later that summer. On October 30, 2005, Batts signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to Deep South Wrestling. A few months later, he moved to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), facing opponents like Da Beast, Tytus, and Gregory Helms. He appeared on Velocity in a match against Helms on May 6, 2006. He was released from his WWE contract on June 14, 2006.
After leaving WWE, Batts briefly retired and pursued mixed martial arts, entering grappling competitions. Though this path didn’t lead to a long-term career, he returned to WWE as a referee in November 2009. While he officially stepped away from full-time wrestling in 2007, he made a few appearances in Florida Underground Wrestlingin 2014 before retiring fully by the end of that year.
Batts collected several championships in his short but active career, including the DPW Cruiserweight Titleand the notable NWA Florida X Division Title. His finishing moves—like the Batts Beater (a pop-up Frankensteiner), Napoleon Complex (sunset flip powerbomb), and Phoenix Splash—showcased his vibrant, athletic talent. Known by his nickname “Straight Up,” he earned praise for his speed, agility, and engaging in-ring style.
