Biography
Krystal Marquisis an American novelist who writes young adult romance novels set in early 1900s Black high society. She studied biology at Boston College and the University of Connecticut, and later took a job as an environmental, health, and safety manager at a major online bookseller.
From a young age, she loved reading and spent much of her time in libraries and used bookstores. She began writing seriously after joining the NaNoWriMo challenge, encouraged by her brother, and completed the first draft of her debut novel, The Davenports.
Her debut novel The Davenportswas published in 2023, and it quickly became a success. The story follows the Davenport family, wealthy and influential Black women in 1910 Chicago, exploring themes of love, ambition, and race in the early twentieth century. The sequel More Than Thiswas released in 2024, continuing the lives and romances of the original characters.
She has shared in interviews that she was drawn to the real-life history of C.R. Patterson and his family, and she chose Chicago as the setting because she found strong historical ties and sources there. Her writing reflects careful research into that era and thoughtful storytelling about Black women navigating society at that time.
