Kari Samantha Wuhrer was born on April 28, 1967, in Brookfield, Connecticut. Her mother, Karin, worked as a payroll accountant, and her father, Andrew, was a police officer turned car salesman. She has three siblings, including two brothers and a sister.
Starting at age 13, she studied acting at the Wooster School. As a teen, she sneaked out at night to sing in nightclubs and became the youngest member of a punk rock band called Freudian Slip.
She then studied drama at several schools: New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, Columbia University, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London with famed teacher Uta Hagen. Kari grew up in a mixed German-American background and developed a strong interest in performance and music early on.

Career

Kari Wuhrergot her first TV break hosting MTV’s game show Remote Controlin the late 1980s and then worked as a video jockey on the channel. She starred as Abby Holland on Swamp Thingand later played Robin Farr in Class of ’96, followed by her role as Ariel Hunter in Beverly Hills, 90210.
In the 1990s, she began appearing in films, starting with The Adventures of Ford Fairlaneand Beastmaster 2, then supporting roles in Higher Learning, Thinner, Anaconda, and Kissing a Fool. She landed her most recognized TV role as Maggie Beckett on the sci-fi series Slidersfrom 1997 to 2000.
In 1999, she released her only music album, Shiny, under producer Rick Rubin’s label. She wrote most of the songs and played guitar and flute on several tracks. Later film roles included Eight Legged Freaksin 2002 and Berserkerin 2001, and she co-produced the direct-to-video film Spider’s Webin 2002.
She also lent her voice to video game and TV work, such as playing Agent Tanya in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2and voicing Maria Hill in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroesbetween 2010 and 2012.
