Early Life

Joey Logano was born on May 24, 1990, in Middletown, Connecticut, to parents Deborah and Thomas Logano. His father has Italian ancestry. As a child, Joey also played ice hockey when he was not racing.
He began racing at age six in quarter midget cars. At seven, he won the Eastern Grand National Championship in the Junior Stock Car division. He continued winning: at eight he claimed the Junior Honda division title, and at nine or ten he won the Late Model and several regional titles in New England.
Joey’s family moved to Georgia when he was ten years old. This move let him race more with Legend cars and smaller late model tracks. In Georgia, he won the Bandolero Bandits Series Championship and set a record of 14 wins in a row at Atlanta Motor Speedway. At twelve, he won the Southeast Pro Legends National Championship.
When Joey was in elementary school in Connecticut, his mother began homeschooling him. This allowed the family to travel to race tracks and focus on his training. He did not attend college, because he began racing full-time soon after graduation from high school through homeschooling.

Racing Career

Early NASCAR And Breakthrough In Xfinity

Joey Logano started in NASCAR’s Busch East Series in 2007. He won the series championship and Rookie of the Year with five wins and ten top-five finishes in 14 races. In 2008, he joined the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and at age 18 he became the youngest series race winner at Kentucky Speedway.

Quick Rise To The Cup Series

Logano made his first NASCAR Cup start in 2008 with a smaller team at New Hampshire. In his first full Cup season (2009), he earned Rookie of the Year and made history by winning his first Cup race at New Hampshire at just 19 years and one month old, the youngest winner ever.

Joe Gibbs Racing Years (2009–2012)

Logano drove the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing from 2009 to 2012. During that time, he earned two Cup wins, 16 top‑five finishes, and 41 top‑ten finishes. His second Cup victory came at Pocono Raceway in 2012.

Team Penske And Continued Success (2013–Present)

In 2013, Logano moved to Team Penske and began driving the No. 22 Ford Mustang. He earned his first Penske win at Michigan later that year, and finished eighth in season points with 19 top‑ten finishes.
In 2014, he won five races, earned multiple poles, and made the Championship 4, finishing fourth overall.

  • 2025 season: His first win came at the Würth 400 in Fort Worth, Texas. He led only seven of 271 laps but took the lead when it mattered in overtime.
