Biography

Dom McLennon(full name Abasiama Udoma McLennon) was born on October 1, 1994 in Hartford, Connecticut. He grew up in East Hartford. His mother is Black and his father is white, and he has two older sisters. His family roots trace back to Ghana, and they practice Islam.
He played saxophone from around age eight and started writing sheet music in middle school. He later discovered hip‑hop, jazz, R&B, and soul through his family and cousins. His early music influenced his creative style, which often blends thoughtful lyrics with varied beats.
Dom studied architecture for two years at the University of New Hampshire, and then moved to Southern California to continue at SCI‑Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture).
Around 2014 he became a founding member of the large creative collective Brockhampton, which began online and later moved to Los Angeles. As part of the group, Dom helped make music and produce songs until their active years ended around 2022.
His style is often described as thoughtful and political, with lyrics that touch on race, identity, and family. He brings a backpack‑rap feel, known for being conscious and honest.
Dom also struggles with mental health challenges. In 2017 he shared an open letter with a fan, discussing self‑harm and social anxiety. He created a safe online chat room for supporters to share and heal. He said he has not self‑harmed in four years, and that fan support has helped him keep going.
After Brockhampton, Dom focused on solo work, solo albums, and building creative projects in Hartford. He teaches music production through platforms like Skillshare, and runs community art spaces in his city. He has also worked on soundtracks for video games and consulted on music‑AI tools, showing his interest in both music and tech innovation.
