He went to Kingswood‑Oxford High School and was named Connecticut PGA Section Junior Player of the Year twice by age 17, making him the youngest to ever win that award. He also won the Northern Junior Championship twice, in 2003 and 2005, a tournament he and his brother Brent helped start to honor their grandfather Stan Trojanowski. Cody attended Baylor University, majoring in linguistics and earning Academic All‑American honors three years in a row. He played top amateur events in college, including advancing to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Public Links and finishing tied for 16th at the Northeast Amateur.
Cody turned professional in 2014 and spent about five seasons on tour, playing 125 events across four continents, including nearly a full season in China on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica. After limited success, he chose to return to amateur status in October 2018, becoming a top amateur in Connecticut soon after.
In 2013, he won the Connecticut Amateur Championship, finishing 3 and 1 in the final match, and also captured the Russell C. Palmer Cup that same year. He later won the New England Amateur Championship in 2021, finishing 10-under total at Great River Golf Club—his first stroke‑play win since becoming an amateur again.
Cody has been named Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year by the Connecticut State Golf Association multiple times, including in 2023 and 2024, a record streak that reflects his dominance in state competition. In April 2025, he shot 7-under 65 to win the Hop Meadow One Day Tournament by six shots, again showing his strong form.
