Early Life
Cassie Ventura was born on August 26, 1986, in New London, Connecticut. Her mother has African American, Mexican, and West Indian roots, and her father is Filipino. She went to The Williams School, a college preparatory school at the Connecticut College campus, and finished high school there in 2004.
When she was 14, Cassie started modeling locally. By 16, she was modeling for catalogs like Delia’s and featured in Seventeen magazine. She also appeared briefly in an R&B singer Mario’s music video for "Just a Friend 2002".
She took singing lessons, studied modern ballet, and joined her school’s performing arts program. These activities were encouraged by music producer Rockwilder. After finishing high school in 2004, she moved to New York City, where she continued modeling and enrolled in dance classes at the Broadway Dance Center, while securing print and commercial modeling jobs and being signed by Wilhelmina Models.
Career
Cassie’s music journey began in late 2004 when producer Ryan Leslie noticed her in clubs and parties. He signed her to his label NextSelection Lifestyle Group, and they worked together on her first song, “Kiss Me”. By 2005, Leslie produced her debut single “Me & U,” which quickly topped club charts in places like Germany and caught the attention of music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.
In 2006, she signed with Bad Boy Records and released her first album, Cassie, with the hit song “Me & U.” The single reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Cassie then released more songs from 2008 to 2009, such as “Official Girl” (featuring Lil Wayne), “Must Be Love” (with Diddy), and “Let’s Get Crazy” (featuring Akon).
She later signed with Interscope Records and released a mixtape called RockaByeBaby in April 2013. This collection included songs like “Numb” (featuring Rick Ross) and “Paradise” (featuring Wiz Khalifa).
Cassie has also appeared in films, starting with Step Up 2: The Streetsin 2008. She played the character Sophie, showing off her dance skills on screen.
