Carlacia Candace Grant was born on January 18, 1991, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. She has roots in the Caribbean, her mother is Haitian, and her father is Jamaican. She later moved with her family to South Florida, where she spent her childhood.
When she was 13 years old, she acted in a school summer camp production of Treasure Island, prompting her to explore acting further. She attended Florida State University and graduated in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Media and Communication Studies, along with a minor in English. Her mother’s name is Carline Grant, and her father is Karl Sr., who works as an entrepreneur. She also has a sister, and she enjoys spending time with family and close friends.
Career
Carlacia Grantbegan her acting journey at the age of 13 when she took part in a summer theatre camp and performed in the play Treasure Island. This experience sparked her interest in acting. Before entering television, she worked as a model and won the Miss Junior Teen Miami Division pageant. She also appeared in commercials for brands like Old Jamaican Ginger Beer and Pet Supermarket. Her television career started in 2016 with a role as Irene in the History Channel’s remake of Roots. That same year, she played Leesha in four episodes of Game of Silenceand Danielle Turner in eight episodes of Greenleaf, a drama series on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
In 2021, Carlacia appeared as Trinity in an episode of The Residentand took on film roles in Apollyonas Janet and Bae Night: The Little Black Bookas Kim. Her most recognized role came later in 2021 when she was cast as Cleo in Season 2 of Netflix’s popular series Outer Banks. She auditioned for the role with a self-taped video and was praised for her performance. Initially a recurring character, she became a series regular starting in Season 3. To prepare for the role of Cleo, a teen from the Bahamas, she learned new skills such as speaking with a Caribbean accent, knife twirling, and tying nautical knots. Her performance received positive attention, and the role helped her gain wide recognition in the industry.
