Ben Caspariuswas born on February 11, 1999, in Westport, Connecticut, and grew up in that community. He attended Staples High School, where he became the state’s all-time hits leader. In his senior year, he hit .490 with 11 home runs, guided his team to a state championship in 2017, and earned titles including Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and USA Today State Player of the Year.
At Staples, people praised him for his athletic skill on both offense and defense. Scouts said he had strong fielding, power at the plate, and could pitch in the mid to upper 80s with a curveball. He was recognized as one of Connecticut’s top baseball prospects throughout his high school years.
Casparius began his college career at the University of North Carolina in 2018. He played both as a hitter and pitcher: as a freshman, he hit .316 and earned 18 hits with 15 RBI, while posting a 1.69 ERA in 10 pitching appearances. He helped the Tar Heels reach the College World Series in his debut year.
He transferred to the University of Connecticut in 2020. After sitting out a year, he returned in 2021 to start 15 games, finishing with an 8–5 record, a 4.03 ERA, and 127 strikeouts, a total that ranked among the top in school history.

Career

Ben was chosen in the 5th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers after his strong college season at UConn, where he logged 127 strikeouts and earned All‑Region and All‑Conference honors. He began his pro career in the minors with the Dodgers, working his way up through their system in 2022 and 2023.
In 2024, Ben started the season in High-A and Double-A before advancing to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he posted a 3.36 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 16 games. He made his major league debut on August 31, 2024, throwing a perfect inning in relief and earning his first win. He finished the regular season 2–0 with a 2.16 ERA over three MLB outings.
Ben also contributed during the postseason, appearing in four playoff games (including one start), posting a 1–0 record with a 1.42 ERA. He even earned a start in Game 4 of the 2024 World Series, helping the Dodgers claim the title.
Through July 13, 2025, he has appeared in 31 MLB games, with a 9–3record, a 4.18 ERA, 71 strikeoutsin 71 innings, and a 1.23 WHIP. Currently, Ben is an important member of the Dodgers' bullpen and is even considered a potential trade target ahead of the 2025 deadline.
