Chad Aaron Bromley was born on March 8, 1979in Willimantic, Connecticut, to teenage parents living in a working-class neighborhood. When he was just five years old, his uncle played Chaka Khan’s song “I Feel for You,” which featured Melle Mel rapping. That moment sparked his love for hip-hop.
Growing up, Chad listened closely to artists like Gang Starr, Jay‑Z, Nas, and Organized Konfusion. He began writing his own rhymes at a very young age. He attended schools in Willimantic and Montiville, Connecticut, and his passion for music started to take shape during those early years.

Career

In the early 2000s, Apathyjoined the underground rap collective Demigodz, which included artists like Celph Titled, 7L & Esoteric, Louis Logic, and others. Between 2000 and 2002, he released solo singles such as “Compatible,” “Just Begun,” “School,” and “Ain’t Nuttin’ Nice” through Bronx Science Records.
His first official solo album, Eastern Philosophy, was released in March 2006 via Babygrande Records and featured guest appearances from Celph Titled, Ryu, and Blue Raspberry. That same year, he also became a member of Army of the Pharaohs, an underground supergroup formed by Vinnie Paz, and appeared on their debut album The Torture Papers.
In 2009, he formed the group Get Busy Committeewith Ryu (of Styles of Beyond) and Scoop DeVille, releasing their debut album Uzi Does Itlater that year. Apathy also released his second solo album, Wanna Snuggle?, in October 2009.
His third solo album, Honkey Kong, came out in 2011 and continued to receive praise for its strong lyricism and production. In 2014, Apathy released Connecticut Casual, which highlighted darker themes of New England and charted at number 41 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Apathy is well known for collaborations with groups and artists such as Demigodz, Army of the Pharaohs, Celph Titled, Jedi Mind Tricks, Styles of Beyond, Doe Rakers, and B‑Real, resulting in a wide-reaching influence in underground hip-hop.
He has released other projects and mixtape series, including It’s the Bootleg, Muthafuckas!volumes, Baptism by Fire, Handshakes with Snakes(2016), and The Widow’s Son(2018) known for thoughtful lyrics and high-level production.
