He played for teams like the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Chicago Bulls, earning two All-Star selections. His presence under the basket and ability to control the boards have made him a key player on every team he joins. Fans and analysts alike continue to follow his career closely as he brings energy and effort to each game.

Early Life

Andre Drummond was born on August 10, 1993 in Mount Vernon, New York, to Jamaican parents. When he was seven years old, he moved with his mother and sister to Middletown, Connecticut. He first went to Woodrow Wilson Middle School, then started high school at Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford.
In his freshman year at Capital Prep, he averaged around 12.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 blocks per game. By his sophomore year, those numbers rose to about 20.2 points, 16.6 rebounds, 7.2 blocks, and 4.5 steals each game. After two years there, he transferred to St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut. He repeated his sophomore year to recover from a stress fracture in his foot, and during his two years at St. Thomas More he became one of the strongest high‑school centers in the country. He led the team to win the national prep championship in 2011 and graduated that spring.
In the summer of 2010, Drummond played for the United States under-17 national team and helped them win the gold medal at the FIBA Under-17 World Championship. The U.S. beat Poland in the final by a wide score of 111–80. Finally, when his high school class of 2011 was ranked, ESPN and NBADraft.net placed him at No. 1, while Rivals.com and Scout.com ranked him at No. 2 in the nation for his class.

College Career

Andre Drummond joined the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies for the 2011–12 season as a freshman. He played in 34 games and started 30 of them. On average, he played about 28.4 minutes each game. During that season he scored 10.0 points, grabbed 7.6 rebounds, and blocked 2.7 shots per game. He also led the team in field goal percentage, shooting 53.8 % from the floor.
Drummond had two games where he scored over 20 points, including a standout performance with 24 points on 11-of‑12 shooting against Holy Cross. He set a freshman record under coach Jim Calhoun by recording multiple double-doubles, finishing with nine for the season. He was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team and was recognized in preseason lists for top freshman awards before the season began.
UConn earned a spot in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, but Drummond’s college run ended in the first round. He fouled out after 26 minutes in the loss to Iowa State, finishing with just two points and three rebounds. That game marked the end of his college career, as he declared for the 2012 NBA Draft shortly after.

Professional Career

Andre Drummond was drafted ninth overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft. He became a regular starter and quickly gained a reputation as a dominant rebounder. During his time with Detroit, he led the NBA in rebounds per game in four different seasons and made two All-Star teams (2016 and 2018). He also earned a spot on the All‑NBA Third Team in 2016 thanks to his strong play on both ends of the floor.
Over his long career, Drummond has played for several NBA teams: Detroit, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and then returned to Philadelphia in mid‑2024. He has appeared in over 890 games with more than 650 starts, and as of now he averages about 12.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting roughly 54 % from the field.
With Detroit, he logged some of his best seasons. For example, he averaged nearly 16 rebounds and around 16–17 points per game in multiple years. He set the Detroit franchise record for most rebounds in a single season with 1,247 in 2017–18. During his stint in Cleveland and Los Angeles in 2019–20 and 2020–21, he maintained strong rebounding numbers, drawing double‑digit boards even when switching teams mid‑season.
After moving through several teams, Drummond joined the Chicago Bulls (2022–2024), where he averaged around 8–9 rebounds and 6–8 points per game before moving back to Philadelphia for the 2024–25 season. In that latest season, he played about 18 minutes per game and maintained roughly 7–8 rebounds each night.
