Born on June 12, 1995, in East Windsor, Connecticut, he stands 6'1" and weighs 245 lbs, bringing both size and skill to the mound. After being picked in the third round by Cleveland in the 2016 draft following a strong college career at Northeastern, he debuted in MLB on June 22, 2019, with a shutout performance over six innings. Over parts of seven seasons, he’s pitched 689 innings across Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, and now the Chicago White Sox, collecting 613 strikeouts with an overall ERA around 4.13. This season, the White Sox brought him in after a mid‑June trade from Milwaukee, where he had requested a move to stay in a starting role. Aaron Civale was born on June 12, 1995, in East Windsor, Connecticut, and attended Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. In high school, he threw a no-hitter during his senior year, marking a standout finish to his prep career.
He went on to Northeastern University, where he began his college career as a relief pitcher before moving into the starting rotation in his junior year. In 2015, as a sophomore, he pitched in a spring training exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox and struck out big-league stars such as David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez, Xander Bogaerts, and Mike Napoli.
During the summer of 2015, he played for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He posted a very low ERA, was named a league all-star, and earned the Outstanding New England Prospect award.
In his junior season at Northeastern (2016), Civale became Co‑Pitcher of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association. That season he had a record of 9–3 with a 1.73 ERA, struck out 121 batters in 114⅓ innings, and set school records for both strikeouts and innings pitched. He was named to the Louisville Slugger All‑American Third Team.
Aaron Civale was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft and began his journey in the minor leagues, starting with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. With strong performances in 2017 and 2018 at Double-A and High-A, he earned a promotion to Triple-A in mid-2019.
He made his major league debut on June 22, 2019, for Cleveland, pitching six scoreless innings with six strikeouts against Detroit. In his first six major league starts, he allowed no more than two runs per outing, a rare achievement. Civale pitched three seasons with Cleveland, then was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in July 2023. With the Rays, he recorded a 2–3 record and a 5.36 ERA over 10 late-season starts, and then signed for the 2024 season, posting a 2–6 record and a 5.07 ERA across 17 starts.
In July 2024, he moved to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a prospect. Civale recorded a 6–3 win–loss record and a 3.53 ERA over 14 starts during the regular season. In early 2025, after a hamstring injury and being moved briefly to the bullpen, he requested a trade so he could keep starting.
That request came true on June 13, 2025, when the Brewers traded Civale, along with cash, to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for first baseman Andrew Vaughn. He quickly joined Chicago’s starting pitching rotation. As of mid-July 2025, Civale has appeared in 122 MLB games (all as a starter), holding a 40–41 record, a 4.13 ERA, and 613 strikeouts across 689 innings.
