At just over 60 years old, Rob Zombie has become a powerhouse in both music and film, blending horror with hard-hitting sound in a way few artists can. Known for his role leading the metal band White Zombie in the ’80s and ’90s, he built a solo music career with hits like Hellbilly Deluxethat pushed the limits of rock and theatrical effect. He then took his dark and dramatic vision into movies, directing cult favorites like House of 1000 Corpsesand a bold remake of Halloween.
Rob Zombie was born as Robert Bartleh Cummingson January 12, 1965, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He is the oldest child of Louise and Robert Cummings and has a younger brother, Michael (now known as Spider One), who later became the lead singer of Powerman 5000. Growing up, Rob was drawn to horror films and dreamed of being figures like Alice Cooper, Steven Spielberg, Bela Lugosi, and Stan Lee. His parents worked at a carnival, but when he was 12, a violent riot broke out at the carnival, and the family left for safety. After finishing high school in 1983, Rob moved to New York City to study at Parsons School of Design. While there, he met future bandmate and girlfriend Sean Yseult and worked as a production assistant on the TV show Pee-wee’s Playhouse, just before he officially started using the stage name “Rob Zombie.”
Rob Zombie first rose to fame as the frontman of the heavy metal band White Zombie, which he co-founded in 1985. The band released successful albums such as La Sexorcistoand Astro-Creep: 2000, both of which sold over two million copies in the U.S. and showed his flair for horror-themed music and visuals.
He launched his solo music career in 1998 with the album Hellbilly Deluxe, which sold over three million copies and featured hit singles like "Dragula" and "Living Dead Girl." This success made him a star outside the band. His second album, The Sinister Urge(2001), also went platinum, and he released more albums through the 2000s and beyond, including Educated Horses, Hellbilly Deluxe 2, and others up to The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy(2021).
In film, Rob broke into directing with his dark horror debut House of 1000 Corpses(filmed 2000, released 2003), which became a cult favorite despite being delayed for its intensity. He continued with The Devil’s Rejects(2005) and 3 From Hell(2019). He also directed a remake of Halloween(2007) and Halloween II(2009), plus films like The Lords of Salem(2012), 31(2016), and The Munsters(2022).
As of 2025, Rob Zombie’s net worth is estimated at around $50 million, earned from his long-standing music career with White Zombie and as a solo artist, his work directing and producing horror films, plus revenue from touring, merchandise, real estate deals, and licensing his music and film rights.
