Mark Linn-Baker was born on June 17, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in a home full of theater and creativity. His mother, Joan, was a dancer, and his father, William Nelson Baker, helped start the Open Stage Theater in Hartford, where both parents were active in civil rights work. He finished Wethersfield High School in Connecticut in 1972, then earned a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1976, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Drama from Yale School of Drama in 1979.

Career

Mark Linn-Baker began his career on stage after earning his drama degree, landing early roles in the New York Shakespeare Festival and making his Broadway debut in Doonesbury. He broke into films with My Favorite Yearin 1982, playing a young writer opposite Peter O’Toole. His most famous role came when he starred as Larry Appleton on the TV sitcom Perfect Strangers, which aired from 1986 to 1993 and made him a household name.
