His skills on the field earned him a full athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona in 2005, where he continued to play football for five years and then entered the NFL Draft in 2010.

Brandon Tatum began his career as a police officer in Tucson, Arizona after he was not selected in the NFL Draft. He served for six years, during which he worked as a SWAT operator, field training officer, general instructor, and Public Information Officer. In early 2016, he became widely known after a video from a Trump campaign rally went viral, where he spoke about feeling unsafe during protests. In 2017, another video gained attention when he criticized NFL players who “took the knee” during the national anthem.
In October 2017, Tatum left the police force and joined Liftable Media, which runs The Western Journal and The Conservative Tribune. Later, he became Director of Urban Engagement at Turning Point USA. In late 2019, he started his own media company to share his views independently.
In November 2021, he published his book Beaten Black and Blue: Being a Black Cop in an America Under Siege, which tells about his experience on the force and social issues he witnessed.
